--The Italian telecoms operator appointed Mr. Conti as chairman last year, as part of a board reshuffle pushed by U.S. investor Elliott Management Corp. in a battle for influence with Vivendi, a Telecom Italia shareholder.

--Telecom Italia could discuss Conti's resignation at a board meeting scheduled on Sep. 26, Bloomberg says.
