Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) reported above-normal gas emissions over
the long weekend at its refinery in Baytown, Texas, and said it
caused "minimal" impact to production.
"The Pipestill 8 Stripper overhead safety valve lifted
prematurely during normal operations and resulted in safe
utilization of the flare system," the refinery said in a statement
to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. " There is
minimal impact to production. We expect to meet our contractual
commitments."
It said the emissions happened Monday, lasting 12 hours, and
included more than 1,000 pounds of carbon monoxide.
The 561,000 Baytown refinery is 25 miles east of Houston.
