Bayer AG (BAYN.XE) said Thursday that it detected and blocked a
cyberattack from the Winnti group on its systems, but that there
was no evidence that data was stolen.
The German chemical-and-pharmaceuticals group said it first
detected indications of infections linked to Winnti at the
beginning of 2018, and began analyzing the threat in collaboration
with Germany's cybersecurity organization.
All affected systems have now been cleaned up and the Cologne
Public Prosecutor is leading an investigation, Bayer said.
Several organizations have found links between Winnti and
Chinese intelligence. After originally targeting online gaming
companies, the group targeted at least one pharmaceutical company,
according to evidence found in 2015 by researchers with
cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Lab.
